The webcast I've been running on and off live from my decks, fx, and microphone for the last few weeks has been crazy successful. So much so, that the neferarious sources I've been using for bandwidth aren't available anymore. Calculated up, the bandwidth requirements are about 2TB a month, which I've found for about $110 a month. For those not in the know, that's about a half megabyte every second, thirty megabytes a minute, nine hundred an hour, etc., etc.. That's JUST to meet today's requirements.
If you haven't heard it, or don't have an idea what I'm talking about, I've been playing real techno for the last month or so on a shoutcast. What do I mean by real techno? Tune in to any of the stations you hear on Digitally Imported. Keep listening. You won't hear any. I import anywhere from ten to twenty records a week from germany, the uk, the czech republic, and many god forsaken small eastern european countries as well as some of the best stuff from detroit, montreal, nyc, and other places closer to home. No trance, no house, no jungle, just techno. Look around, you won't find it anywhere -- I tried for ages.
So, not including all the money I've dished out for equipment, records, etc, which I enjoy, I'd really like to find a way to afford the extra $110 a month for a streaming station. If anyone's got any ideas, hit me up.
I could out of pocket this I suppose, but it'd be a whole lot better if I didn't have to, and I wouldn't have to worry about it just going off some month.
