A brief conversation led my mind to go off and running this evening. There is violence and oppression and destruction and pain and rage and sorrow of magnitudes that we here in the US often find ourselves simply unable to fathom, and for many people- this is simply a part of their way of life. And it's easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless in the face of it all when your awareness opens up to it. And while many of the world's ills are undeniably too great for one person to fix on their own- regardless of the strength of their convictions and the compassion fueling their intentions, that does not mean there is nothing that each of us individually, and collectively can do. Each simple act of kindness. Every word spoken, not out of anger, but out of love. Every potential arguement that is instead engaged as a rational discussion. Every choice we make every moment of every day influences the world in ways we will never discover should we live a thousand years. Do what you can, regardless of the scope of your actions, to make the world around you a better place, and to ease the suffering of those around you, and you can rest easy each and every night knowing that whether the world's ills are cured or not- you have done your part for your fellow beings. Peace and love to all.
