Heard today that one of my classmates from high school died in a car accident.
No one I was particularly close to, we had a very large graduating class, but still.
My circle of friends usually averages one death a year, but it's been quiet this year as far as that goes.
It's odd to think how many of my friends have died in their teens and 20s. I'm not even 30 yet and I've attended more funerals and wakes than I care to think about, and that's not counting all the friends who died while I was deployed or in training and couldn't be there to say goodbye.
I'm too young to know this many people in graves.
It makes me think of the times when I was suicidal and how I would've just been adding to the heartbreak that so many of us have felt each and every year. A few of the closer friends we hold celebrations for on the anniversaries of their births and their deaths. Others will get a drink raised to them or a series of facebook posts. Some we just accept as casualties of misspent youth and rarely speak of except in lists of the ones we've lost.
I don't have much more to say on the subject...
