Gotta be up ridiculously early tomorrow morning for a call from the VA, hoping for new news about my disability claim. I suffered 9 concussions in the military and as a result have issues with sleep, memory, mood, as well as hearing and vision. My knee and shoulder joints are wrecked. And yet 2 years after I returned home from my second tour in iraq, after a few month run of homelessness, with the inabiity to do some of the jobs I used to do, since I filed my claim in june of 2010... still they've offered me nothing.
No timeframe, nothing to help me out until they're able to do something about the claim. Nothing.
I gave up years of my life, my health, and lost my fiance (though admittedly that was probably meant to fall apart anyway) all due to my time serving the military, and they repay me with this kind of treatment.
You could ask if I'm bitter, but bitter wouldn't even come close to covering it.

*breath*

But other than that my life is good.
I'm hitting the gym and getting back into shape, there's a big tattoo convention in a couple months, a few parties this month and next month that I'm looking forward to, I'm doing pretty good in school so far trying to learn a new trade so I can better provide for myself and hopefully a family in the future, I'm making some decent friends out here in AZ even as I miss my friends back home... I don't really have much room to complain.

So having vented, let me say that all in all- life is awesome.

America unfortunately has let vets down before. Here's a PBS documentary called 'March of the Bonus Army' about the 17,000 WWI vets that occupied Washington DC demanding the benefits that were promised to them but never received. It's about 30 minutes long in 3 parts I believe.
