I spent last weekend in Chicago. Saw mom & family as Sunday was Mother's Day. Met a woman who reads a blog of mine and I hers. It was strange in that we'd each read some of the other's most private thoughts and then suddenly they we were in a tavern together. We got along really well and I loved her southern accent. (She hails from South Carolina.)

We met at a bar on Southport and then caught some Thai for dinner. Then, after a brief stop at her place, we went to a bar called Blyss over in the West Loop area where Oprah lives. I was soooo out of place there but it was amusing. House music blaring and everyone but me and the bartenders looked like they shopped down on Michigan Ave. Way too classy a joint for me. We finally crashed at 3:30 and she was kind enough to let me do so at her place.

Next morning I found that I didn't get ticketed! She lives in a part of town called Boystown which is one of those trendy parts of Chicago. Thusly parking is scarce and at a premium.

I cruised back to my brother's place and then over to grandma's where family was waiting. My grandmother just had a new battery put in her pacemaker and she was doing very well. She'll be 89 in a few months and she looks great, gets around just fine, and has a fully-armed and operational brain. My aunt sought my advice on her 'puter problem and was going to bring me a bag of chocolate but couldn't find it so I did it for free cuz I'm such a swell nephew. My cousin informed me that she was going to be laid off in a couple months so she was looking for work. She works for the State of IL in a juvy center. In addition, she told me that my swarvy new bi-color Chuck Taylors had the gang colors of the Disciples. So I'm thinkin' about trying to become they're computer guy and make sure all of their crack deals are properly logged and no one is skimming off the top.

Today I go fix a 'puter and I've got to do some research on the Net before I go. I made the mistake of going to a CD store yesterday. All I needed was one (1) blank tape so I could make a mix for my car. So I headed over to Mad City Music. I ended up buying a used copy of Jethro Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery remastered and an album by locals His & Her Vanities. Then I got into a conversation with the owner, Dave, who's a really cool guy. He loves Hawkwind and King Crimson and plays guitar in a band called The Waterdogs who play 50s/60s rock'n'roll, surf music, and the like. So I'm gonna burn him a few shows and hopefully get him to keep an eye out for some CDs, if they pass through his store.

Alright, I'm off to get coffee....
