To anyone still trying to justify the force used against George Floyd and everything that has come after, let me share a little story:
Several years ago I was driving home from work at 3 am. It had been a busy night so I was filthy and disheveled. Also, I was driving my mother-in-law's car on what I would soon learn was a suspended license for forgetting to pay a seat belt ticket.
I got pulled over for speeding.
So to shorten this story here is what the arresting officer (yeah, you bet your ass I was arrested) saw : I'm 6'2. Almost 300 lbs. I stood a solid 6 inches above the cop with at least 100 lbs on him. At this point I look like exactly as much of a threat, if not more, than George Floyd. I get out of a car that is not mine with no proof of my connection to the woman it is registered to and a suspended license and I look like I'm either at the end of a bender or in the middle of one. I was taken in, processed, called my wife and told her what a flaming idiot I was, and released several hours later. I was NOT dragged out of my car. I did NOT have to wait for four other officers to come assist. And I was NOT pinned to the ground and kneeled on.
That's why there are protests. That's why there are riots. That's why people are angry. THAT is white privilege.
