So, for almost four weeks now, I've been running in an attempt to train for a 5K this summer with my girlfriend. I started off strong, though I could only run 1.25 miles the first day, and then kinda got really busy and didn't run very much. But I got back into the swing two days ago with the goal of running 2.2 miles by the end of the weekend. I'd like to announce that I've demolished that goal. I ended up running 2.2 miles that day, 2.0 miles yesterday, and an amazing self-accomplishment of 3.36 miles today! Now I feel confident that I will indeed be able to run my 5K Midnight Madness without dying! That's good news, isn't it?

Now, since everything I do has to involve technology, the real reason I initially got excited about running was the cool accessories I could buy! My birthday had just passed, so I had a $100 gift card and another $20 gift card. I spend the hundred on some new Nike+ running shoes - gasp, I know! I'd never owned a pair of shoes that cost more than probably $50 before! I also bought the Nike+ iPod sport kit with my $20 gift certificate. I already had the iPod Nano, so I was set in that department. So, Nike+ keeps track of everything I run, so I thought I'd share the official stats with you! (Do you care? No, but there'll be pictures to look at!)

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

This is the route I ran for my first 5K today. It gets a little loopy back in the middle at the end, but that's because I just decided to keep going after I'd reached my goal (of not dying, and running about 2.2 miles).

This is the speed vs. distance graph of my run. That huge downward slope near the beginning is when I was running south along Stange into a strong headwind. The little orange dot with the O)) is where I played my Power Song to keep me going. I've chosen Reel Big Fish - Where have you been? from Our Live Album is better than your Live Album. Mostly because it has a sweet horn breakdown, but also because it's like 7 minutes long and I figure if I can run through that I'll cover nearly a mile when I'm reaching what feels like the end.

This is a breakdown of all my runs so far. The taller the bar, the further I ran. The little dinky one was when I tried to run on a treadmill. It sucked.

These are my "stats" if you will. 13 runs for 23.61 miles at an average pace of 8:54 minutes per mile. I know. I'm really freaking slow.

And that's me looking dead giving the thumbs up after my run tonight!

That's all! This is just my self-indulgence "look-at-me" post because I'm proud of myself. So don't bring me down if you can run a bajillion miles without breaking a sweat!
