I'm reading up on foot binding, because I'm reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. It's interesting, but quite unfortunate.

It was a real learning curve actually. My girlfriend wanted to do a set with me for ages. I was hoping it would be ok to try some shots outside with better light but it was just too cold. And every time we had an opportunity I just wasn't in the mood. So we finally got around to doing it the last night I was in Vancouver. All I had was a bad ceiling light and a desk lamp. It went horribly. I now know never to try a photoshoot without being happy with the lighting arrangements no matter how much someone else thinks it's ok.
Foot binding, eh?
