Rick James died today. Not sure whether I'm really sad (no, I never gave a damn when Johnny Cash died, either. . .but Brando's death hit me, and I don't know why. . .just really bothered me), but the man did have a tough go at it, professionally speaking. It was HIS idea to have an all-girl band, and Prince not only stole the idea, but made fun of him in Purple Rain - kind of rubbed it in his face with the Morris Day character. Don't get me wrong, Prince still rates a 10 out of 10 in Brilliant's Book of Cool, Jehovah's Witness conversion and all. . . the man produced and recorded his own album at 18 years old. . . just like Alice Cooper. . .
Went to the horseraces today. . . first time. . .tho' I did see greyhounds race in Portland when I lived there. . . sad either way but fascinating people watching. . . and it's always great to lose money. . won in Vegas, lost at the horsies. . .two nice 'place' bets and quinellas at the end saved my skinny ass from losing the rent, however.
