I have seen three people get hit by cars in my life.
1. A motorcyclist was hti by car when my dad was driving me home from junior high. We were at a red light, so i saw the accident, people crowding around the poor guy, and, I swear, a bloody hand reaching up out of the onlookers and then falling back down. Did he die? It messed my young mind up more than it was already.
2. Coming out of the subway in the village I came up the stairs just in time to see and older woman get hit by a bus. I was listening to Pavement. For some odd reason I stayed. She died instantly, or so I guess. They put a cloth over her, all except her feet with one red heel hanging off. Then I went to work.
3. About twenty minutes ago, I saw a man get hit by a van, and was close enough to go see if he was okay. But many other people rushed over first. I remember I said holy shit. I was again listening to Pavement. It bothered me that so many people were calling for ambulances when they could plainly see others calling for them. Calling twelve ambulances isn't going to get any of them there any sooner, and it will clog the streets and make it harder. I kept looking at the guy hit her, who was sitting in his car calling the police. I mean, we've all run a near-red in our day, but this guy was now officially fucked.
