so I slept alot today. c-span and weird hours will do that to ya. but a man's passionate voice woke me. a man I've voted for many times over. a man who still makes me believe theres some good out there in washington d.c. that doesn't involve white wine, oysters, ian mac kaye and crab cakes.

that man was washington state representative jim mc dermott.

he was talking about a cuban u.s. soldier about to go on leave from his post in iraq who wants to visit his 6 year old daughter in havana for what may be the last time during his leave.

he is not allowed to. because he visited her last year before they told him he was being backdoor drafted for another two tours. apparently it is too soon for him to be allowed to travel there. and his leave is not long enough to bring her to the u.s. too much red tape.

this man risking his life on a daily basis won't be able to see his daughter until 2006. when he gets leave again. if he's still around.

is this the kind of democracy we're selling in iraq? mc dermott asked.

and the question has been haunting me all day.

on an upnote, juno106 cut his hair today and it looks smashing. very jesus and mary chain. and my floating camilla is healthy and perfect. i'd take a picture but I'm just too damned lazy. i'm sure there will be more in the future.
