So I went into Sierra Vista yesterday for the first time since I've been here. I think the next time I see Sierra Vista, it will be in my rearview mirror as I'm speeding towards Tucson or Phoenix or anywhere else really.
Yesterday I saw it all: tumbleweeds, cactii, and buzzards circling overhead as if to say, "We've been waiting for you, SirLoins. Come, take your rightful place beneath us. It is your... destiny."
So yeah, I drove off post and, simultaneously, 180 years back in time. I can only compare it to walking into a living episode of Jerry Springer. There was bubbas everywhere! The fantastic voyage into Walmart alone shaved years off my life!
There was a "block party" going on and so the main road was blocked off. We were detoured through the residential area and it was like visualizing all of Jeff Foxworthy's "You might be a redneck if..." routines. Disassembled vehicles on lawns. People chillin' in their underwear on porches. Mullets!!!
Yokel: Y'know, Doc Holliday has his famous shootout 'round here.
Me: I'll do the same if I have to stay here longer than five months.
I guess there's a line where the south begins and civilization ends and it's running somwhere through Arizona. Next week I'll be picking up my car and next weekend I hope to travel west a bit.
I just may make the drive all the way to L.A.
On the plus side, Mexico (and freedom) are only 20 minutes away.
