Ok so, I find out today that I might not have to move to Schweinfurt. From what I hear, Schweinfurt is better than Vilseck, but the problem is Schweinfurt is going back to Iraq mid-2006.

I've already done a year over there and I'm not exactly looking forward to going back. I did everything I could to avoid moving to Schweinfurt. For a long time, it was me vs. the US Army. I put up a good fight, but in the end I thought I had lost.

Today I get called into the sergeant major's office and he tells me I *might* not have to go and that there may be a job for me in Grafenwoehr.

Am I afraid to go back? Fuck yeah... but I would do it. I've already been back for almost a year which has been a lot longer than some of the other soldiers I deployed with.

What is the real reason I don't want to go? It's going to sound cliche but I met a great german girl last May. We hung out as much as we could in the short time we had together. I totally blew off all my buddies and everything so that I could spend time with her, but she went to the states to study for a few months.

Near the time she was getting ready to leave, the relationship... soured a little bit. The stresses of med school were bearing down on her as her deadlines approached and she and I both knew that a) she was leaving and b) I probably wouldn't be here when she got back.

I've already sent her emails saying "I'm staying!" "I'm going." "I'm staying!" "I'm going." ad nauseum. I don't want to waste my efforts and emotions on an outside chance.

But still I hope....

Funny story. I was at my buddy's girlfriend's house and we were watching german TV (proSieben, I think). Two American guys and two German girls. We were watching "The Lost World" even though it was auf Deutsch and they were showing WWI war scenes. I had noticed that the conversations stopped when these scenes started, but my buddy was able to shatter the silence with his question "So who are the good guys here?"
