Forgive me if this turns into a mini rant. I've been having an interesting week, though it hasn't exactly been a good week. I went on a third interview with Nachi America today. I've spent so much time there, I already feel like I work there, and I'm starting to get very annoyed with the entire prospect of working for them. I've been going after a sales representative position, but they are treating it like I'm going to be running the entire corporation. Today's interview was horrible. My insides were squirming and twisting while three old Japanese men with the combined English skills of a mute todler tried to interview me. The Japanese "Engrish" is so incredibly difficult to decipher. Their English is much better than my Japanese of course, and I respect that they're trying, but it seems to be extremely counter productive to conduct an interview between parties that cannot understand each other.
The interview was screwed up. Really screwed up. They hardly asked about my job skills, as if they weren't really interested in what my experiences in the workplace have been. They asked about my family, hobbies, ethical situations, etc. They frowned and wrote in their notebooks when I mentioned music. They nodded and smiled when I mentioned computers. They frowned and wrote in their notebooks when I mentioned I was not married. They nodded and smiled when I mentioned photography.
They frowned and wrote and nodded and smiled all in unison liked I was in the Japanese Twilight Zone, and I was just hoping Godzilla would rip the roof off the place, eat them and allow for me to escape and get the hell out of there.
The last two interviews went very well. If they hadn't, I wouldn't have made it to the third interview with the bigshot Japanese guys, but I think all my effort has been in vein. This last interview went over like Hiroshima.
I tried like mad to tell them why I'm qualified for the position, but they had no interest in it. And all of this just leaves me wondering what the hell is going on.
