There was this crazy thing on I think CNBC or one of those news channels last night...about polygamy. There's some crazy cult in Arizona, Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints, the leader is wanted by the FBI, he had like 28 wives or something. They interviewed 3 teenage guys who had "escaped" the community. The men in the community see the young guys as competition, and make up things to get them banished. Over 400 have been banished or left...they call them the Lost Boys...400! These men have like 5 to 10 "wives" (not legal marriages of course, and they are young girls who are "given" to the men, then basically raped) so of course they end up having like 30 kids, and then the kids grow up to repeat the cycle.
It's just amazing that this is going on in this country. Actually I'm not amazed, since my own husband lived with a Christian cult that operates out of Chicago, they have this huge school and everything. But I'm very saddened. These people are not allowed exposure to the outside world, and they don't know they can get out. Any religion that forbids TV, books, music, etc., and promotes reproduction to the point of "breeding," and only allows women to wear long skirts...is a CULT. Of course those are not the only definitions, or the only kinds of cults, but there are many people that live in those conditions and we are cautioned by the PC police to "respect all religious beliefs" but I'm sorry, no! I could write a book on that sick place my husband was in, and maybe I will! Hopefully it will die out when their founder, who is now in his 70s, croaks. That is one crazy SOB. Sorry for the rant, but... surreal
