the other day i had such a dick of a customer.. it was just after 9pm, and julian had closed off, leaving me with just kaitlyn.. but it wasn't busy, she just had two customers, neither with buggies, so im sitting in the office, getting ready to balance, when julian comes up to my window, saying that there's this guy who apparantly cant wait for the two people (TWO PEOPLE!) to be done, so could i please come out.. so i sigh and grumble and come out. his stuff is on my belt already.. now, i dont actually want to open up, i just want to process this guy and get back to what i was doing, so i put the closed sign on the end of my belt, but it topples over onto the ground. i say
"oh! could you just pick that up for me please?" and he says
"you want me to pick it up for you?" in kind of a nasty voice, so i say
"well, if you want me to get started on your groceries... yes" because he was apparently in SUCH a hurry.
"so, you wont start my groceries unless i pick it up?" im frustrated and annoyed now, so i just say
"jesus!" under my breath and start putting through his stuff (please note that, sure enough, someone else did come to my cash)
at the end of the order, he pays with debit, i print up his receipt and toss it in her groceries, and he says
"whats with the attitude? its not necessary to throw the receipt on my merchandise" so i say
"its paper, its not going to hurt anything" and i start putting through the next person. he looks at me and goes
"what am i supposed to do with this" indicating the groceries. at this point im definately looking at him like he's stupid
"well.. bags are 5 cents each." im still trying to deal with this next customer
"how many do you think i need?" this move is deliberately obnoxious on his part..
"that depends on whether or not you're going to try to stuff your toilet paper in a bag"
"yeah, i am"
"ok, then you need two"
"wait... it wont fit in a bag"
"then you need one"
"no, give me two" you can see how retarded this is... so i give him two bags and he attempts to pay me with his DEBIT CARD. i look at him like he's out of his goddamn mind and say
"forget it, just take them" to which he responds
"well, you know what, you should have asked me before. this is supposed to be customer service" FUCK him! im not his mother! im really mad at this point, losing my temper even
"you know, given that there were only two people in the other cashier's line, me coming out here for you is a favour."
"do you get paid? this is your job."
and my grand finale
"you're right, it is my job, and now i have to go do it."
then i turned around, walked into the office, and threw a little temper tantrum. i was mad for the rest of my shift.
