Hangover. I had another evening of sitting at The Basement Pub with my friends until 4 in the morning -- always interesting. Dave was again making the argument that if World War II was a war against fascism we lost (we certainly didn't win militarily, the Russians did --the US doesn't win wars), apparently the Truman campaign and the Nazi party had the same corporate backer. More reading required. I also agree that we live in a police state and that it has been so since the 50's (at least), just a very clever police state with a lot of breathing room. Our behavior is regulated by many "informal sanctions" to use a sociological term, and these social sanctions keep the majority in line (especially in regards to sex, family and careers). Effectively you have to play the American social game if you want to participate in mainstream culture. Pop culture is packaged and fed without context, nobody asks who a pop stars musical heroes are. Alas I have much more to say about this, but I can't seem to wrap my head around a paper bag today.
In other news I am dead broke, my paycheck was supposed to be dated the 20th, but it was dated the 22nd (assholes!) I want my tax returns!
I have also noticed that I am actually writing about my life lately, instead of my usual ethereal nonsense, strange.

The book explores the resurgence of body modification in the 90s, the whys, whos, and wheres, and looks at different "subcultures" within the body modification community - I'll let you know how it is when I'm finished.
