How is everyone today? Good I trust? Welcome to the year of the snake! Happy Chinese New Year everyone! Anyway, there will be a new "Music For The Masses" playlist by the end of the week here since we had so much fun with the last one! Now that I have those announcements out of the way, let's go!
So, this band is one of the best of the post punk variety out there. They're full of surprises too mixing shoegaze, electronic, psych pop and noise rock to name a few elements. They're from Canada and they're superb in ever aspect! The name you ask? Preoccupations. This band, has been stellar from their first full album Viet Cong (2015) to their latest release, Arrangements (2022) and I'm sure some of you will really fall in love with this band! So, here's a few choice tracks from Preoccupations!
Up first, from their first album Viet Cong (2015) I give you the breakaway hit off the album (in my opinion and many others as well), "Continental Shelf" and it's honestly, breathtaking. Enjoy! The video is great too!
Next, we have a track from their 2016 album Preoccupations. The track is called "Anxiety" and it's definitely a different beast from the last song. As I said, they're really good at switching up styles and moods so, naturally, I'm here for it! The lead keyboard is so stark but amazing to me! I love this track. Enjoy!
Up next, from their 2019 album, New Material, I give you the track "Compliance" and this one is another different mood entirely lol. They do so much with so little as far as how sparse some of the tracks are. This one has electronic kick drums and beautiful noise synths mixed in with the din of the guitars, bass and drums. I love this work so much and I'm always blown away when I come back to this band. Fucking killer.
From their most recent album Arrangements put out in 2022, I give you the super cool track "Fix Bayonets!" It's a killer return to their post punk core with some really great riffs and drones in the style of shoegaze with some lovely vocals too! They're such a talented band and I'm glad I thought to share this newer band with you all! Enjoy! It's always a blast bringing my ideas of great music to you all!
