So, I'm not working right now. I'm meeting a friend for lunch downtown, and had some grading to do this morning. Given those factors, busting out that Word document and cracking out some paragraphs just seemed silly: I'd get nowhere and it would be time to go. In reality, I'm just rationalizing how lazy I am.

Towson is close to where I live now. It's about an hour from College Park, though.
I didn't mean to imply that it was ugly or anything, it's just that US 1 goes through the damned thing, so you can't have that wonderful spatial dynamic afforded in the manner of Berkeley. And it hasn't developed in the same way Berkeley has. Everything around CP is mostly a chain store or restaurant, I believe.
Anyway, if and when you're hear, I'd be happy to give you a tour, bro!

All take that as a compliment.
What are you writing?

I adore going to breakfast with job candidates. Yeah, the food is never that great - but it *is* free. And it's just fun to meet folks, see what they are up to, and to imagine *what could be.*
Enough on that.
The weekend was good. Friday, we put up our Christmas decorations. Which isn't much - a 3ft tree, a few other things. But...

Totally love Oliver! He is so creepy and sad. I have read all this wierd shit on him, but I never seem to come to any conclusion about where I think he came from. Still, it's interesting.
1. Why is it so cold in my apartment? All the radiators are open, but for some reason the super/university is being stingy with the heat. Bastards...
2. I seriously want to do some good old fashioned desktop, pen-and-paper roleplaying.
3. I'm actually getting somewhere on my proposal today. Right now, I'm organizing my notes. Then, I shall write!
That is all.

Yeah we read Lynch and Jacobs too. I'm thinking about how diet foods are in a category of so-called "safe foods" that give the okay for women to consume, and consume in quantity--which, in general--is frowned upon. I'm pretty much applying that logic to outlet centres where I exchange cals/carbs/fats for price.
'Course what I'm really thinking about it fuck, that's due really fucking soon. I should get on that. Well that and Canada's largest outlet centre/supercentre was build about 5 minutes from where my parents live, so it's an issue that's very close to home.
What are you working on, more specifically?

Around this time of year, I really get nostalgic for *college.* OK. First, stop laughing. I am not still in college. I mean, real college - undergrad days. I used to LOVE this time of year as an undergrad. Because I'm anal, I usually had most of my work handily wrapped by the last week of the term and my grades were usually pretty solid....

I miss college (undergraduate) too. We got to discuss esoteric shit, have lots of sex, drink cheap beer and not work very much. Good times.
Dissertation proposal? You must be a glutton for punishment. My master's thesis is killing me. Good luck with that.

I feel very pround of myself this week for figuring out how to connect to the Social Sciences server with X11, install X11, use xSTATA, upload my data to that server with Fugu, create logs in STATA, *and* perform the Hausman test in STATA 9. I'm no statistical wizard, but I feel sort of bad ass today.
Anyway, that aside, I've actually got something on...

wow. your readings are veering into my field [and a name check to boot!]. I'm way too fried to go too deep into this now [I took part one of ten of my A.R.E. today], but here are a few things you might be interested in reading
Public Space/Urban Planning:
Kevin Lynch Image of the City
Christine Boyer The City of Collective Memory
Perception of Space / Phonomenology:
Gaston Bachelard Poetics of Space
Colin Rowe & Robert Slutzky Transparency: Literal and Phenomenal [in Colin Rowe's book Mathematics of the Ideal Villa
Walter Benjamin's Passages
also: Hegel and Heidegger
and then something fun:
Italo Calvino Invisible Cities
one of my favorite books.

space and time? Will we be discussing architecture or music? Happy Thanksgiving.
Here's a goddamn riddle for you:
Q: How do you know it's the holidays?
A: Because needless family drama is in the air!
Huzzah!
So, that's all I have to say about that. The inner workings of my familial life are really not all that interesting.
Yesterday, we went to (finally) go see

Thanks, man. I'm hoping to totally regain some energy and motivation.
Interestingly enough, we're low on family drama. Hoping it stays that way.
And why are you the only person I know who was W&G? I'll have to check it out myself.

Oooh, I really want to see that movie. I am also a fan of stop-motion animation.

Ugh. I don't really want to work on my proposal.
All I have to do today is write about biopower, state planning, and the importance of "space" as a social science variable.
Here's a fun link if you like ontology and libraries - it talks about how the web is changing our whole idea of categorization and how space effects how we categorize things.

Good luck on those scores! God, that reminds me of waiting for my GRE results.

I was basically making a joke that "the gay guy" doesn't exactly narrow things down on that show.
(In other words, your project sounds cool.)
