We are now officially ONE WEEK away from the exam. The tension is on. Two books left.

I'm reading History of Political Philosophy by Strauss and Cropsey right now. This books sucks. It's mostly just summaries. Which I guess is cool. But a lot of the thinkers (Marsilius of Padua?!?!? Seriously?!?!?) are just not interesting. The book is also weak in terms of 1) critique and 2) threading these together in one narrative about theory. Compared to Sheldon Wolin's Politics and Vision, this thing blows. And it's huge: clocking in at nearly a cool one thousand pages. Ugh.

This weekend I saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which was better than I thought. I think it would be a mistake to call it a horror movie. It's really a police procedural, with a Rashomn-like conceit [re: events are explained via both scientific and religious avenues, and several times the audience is privy to the same events as seen through these perspectives]. In that sense, the movie is a fun - but not particularly deep - consideration of science vs. myth. The worst thing is that the few scares in the flick (the creepy "melting faces") are like ALL in the trailer. Le sigh.

OK. I have a meeting.

Yeah, I am busy. I'll be more content once I'm done with core classes. smile

Good luck with the Strauss. At least now you'll understand why we're in Iraq, neh?
