A bit of indulgence today...

So, I do not put a lot of stock in dreams. In part, that is probably because I rarely remember much of what I dream. When I do recall anything, it is mostly disjointed images of which I am uncertain and really have no context for. This is in stark relief to my wife: she is one of those folks who not only regularly remembers her dreams in exacting detail, she is also fairly capable at "directing" her dreaming experience to go where she wants.

Anyway, in general, I see dreams as pretty just "mental debris" - the firing of synapses as you sleep, producing images and feelings. I don't really buy much into intuition and psychic events or anything. I can accept that some people have "insights" while dreaming: a problem has been consuming you, some image fires the right way in your head in association with some idea, and -blam- you get some great new concept. But, I figure that is the exception rather than the rule for most of us. Thus, while things like dream analysis are fun, I just don't fully buy into it.

OK? Okay.

But, I had the oddest dream sensation the other night. I had a dream, and when I woke up I really thought the dream *had* to be real - I honestly *wanted* it to be real. And I *remembered* the dream.

It started at a family reunion. I was meeting a lot of people I had never met. Some distant relatives came up to me, to introduce me to a cousin of mine. She was about my age, and studying law on the east coast. This cousin was Linda Cardellini - Lindsey from Freaks and Geeks and Velma from the Scooby-Doo movies.

Now, to be clear: this cousin did not LOOK like Linda Cardellini. She *was* Linda Cardellini - only she was a law student instead of an actress. In manner, she was a lot like the character Lindsey from [the fucking awsome] Freaks and Geeks. She had curly hair, that was pulled up, and very red lipstick. We hit it off all right. I remember thinking she was dead sexy.

Later, I went to visit some other relatives. On the way over there, I learned of a news story. Apparently, there had been a murder. It had occured on the rooftop of a skyscraper, and a security camera had caught the whole thing.

I arrived at my relatives house and it was, for lack of a better term, a white trash heaven. The home was actually a trailer, complete with "car on cement blocks." Sitting out on the picnic table is my relative (who is no one I actually know in real life), and the MURDERER FROM THE ROOFTOP. This guy actually looks a lot like Coolio, with some hardcore prison tattoo on his neck. He threatens me, telling me I'm dead if I rat to the police where he is. I'm uneasy, and hang out for a while.

At some point, I leave my parents to socialize with those nuts, and I go inside in the dark bedroom. There, I text message Linda Cardellini. It turns out, she's at the Hilton having daquiris. She totally wants me to come out with her. So, I decide to do just that - totally jazzed and thinking I have a shot with her.

Then I woke up - and I was totally bummed. I really wanted to go hang out with Linda Cardellini, and it just felt really real and right. It was just the strangest sensation, and it lingered for a good part of the morning. I've never had a "dream" experience quite like that before. [I feel a little like George from Seinfeld - the whole Marissa Tomei thing.]

I'm sure a good part of this had to do with seeing The 40-Year Old Virgin this weekend [which rocked my ass by the way]. The movie involves a lot of the folks who worked on/starred in Freaks and Geeks and got me and the wife talking about the show and so on...

I totally started to rewatch Freaks and Geeks again this evening.... confused

That's my story for today.

I love hearing dream stories! An old roommate of mine used to tell the most ridiculous shit; I swore he was making it up. He remembered them really well, too.

I had a dream once (recently) in which I punched a guy in the face. I woke up at the exact instant and punched a bunch of books off of my bedside table.

Anyway, I wrote that because of my finances. They are really in bad shape. I'm almost getting to a point where I can't pay the minimum balance on my credit cards. And I don't know what to do.
