On a totally differen note: Tocqueville is one motherfucker that knows how to go ON AND ON. He *totally* needed an editor.
Oh, my wife is on vacation this week. Today, we did work (I studied for the theory exam, she studied for her PCAT), did some housesitting, and went to eat at Potbelly - which was awesome.
Lately, I've been having some trouble falling asleep at night. Even with the A/C, it just feels stuffy. More importantly, I find myself freaking out about my comprehensive exam in in about 7 weeks. I'm on pace with my work - generally "getting" something out of the texts I read (you move fast - it's hardly a tight read, but ya know, quick & dirty & gets the job done). Just feeling the pressure, more so than on the American one. Theory is a far 2nd field to me, and the theorists here scare the shit out of me. In addition, this is the last terrible "hurdle" I have to jump - sure, there's the proposal, the research, the writing, the defense etc. But those are more at my own pace. The exam thus weighs heavy. Ugh. I'll be glad when this is done.

Re: the comps. I hear ya, also. Just remember that we theorists keep ourselves in a job by saying relatively straightforward things in REALLY roundabout ways. Best of luck with it, of course.
