What did you think of George "the Sith" Lucas' final contribution to Star Wars?
In a nutshell, I thought it was very good, if you try real hard to forget Episodes I and II. THIS is where Episode I should have started!
Good: The political machinations, though anything but subtle, were still quite fun. Ian McDermott is AMAZING as Palpatine. He's incredibly scary, and sooooo good in that role. Ewan McGreggor - I thought he was at the top of his game as Obi-Wan most of the time.
Bad: Padme is reduced to a VERY weak woman, and kudos to Natalie Portman for trying to make the best of it. Anakin and Padme scenes, once again, blow. Since when did R2 become such a force to be reckoned with? I don't really care about the history of Grievous, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out why a droid, even if he has a beating heart and eyes, has a chronic cough. All the Jedi go out like chumps. Mace Windu is still rather lame and uninteresting in every way. I still can't get into Yoda with a lightsaber.
Up in the air: Suprisingly, I REALLY liked Vader being put into the armor. However, imagine this: Vader asks what happened to Padme, and the Emperor tells him he has destroyed her in his anger. As he is screaming "Nooooo!," the mask is lowered and sealed on his face. So, our final glimpse of what is left of Anakin is his pitiful, disgusting, deformed face with his hatred for himself forever sealed into what we know as Darth Vader. That would have been AWESOME. Underneath the mask is forever a sorry, sad man who deserves his fate, yet we are oddly sympathetic. Hmmm?? I think that would be great.
Just my thoughts though. Thanks for hearing me out.
