The family came and the family went.
On the whole, it was a great success. Things started off rocky, as I felt a bit sick from the previous night's drinking. But after lunch, I found my get up and go. My parents toured campus and the neighborhood yesterday. They really dug it, and went a bit crazy buying U of C sweatshirts for some reason. I took them to good places to eat (Dixie Bait Shop and Pizza Capri, for foks who know Hyde Park). It was good to see them.
I talked to my wife last nite - sounds like her family visit also went well.
It's Sunday, my family is gone, and my wife should be home soon. I'm catching up on work - reading some articles. I have a good "Sunday vibe" going on.

i think/thought i like(d) rice b/c she is "black, female, single, ambiguous about abortion [for a republican] and has never run for office," as my friend russ smith says.
i doubt she'll actually run and even if she did, she would never win the idiot party ticket due to states such as georgia, carolinas, alabama, etc due to the exact same reasons listed above.
you know, i never understood the love affair with dixie kitchen...bill clinton made it a point to stop there on both of his campaign trails when he was in chicago.
See, I had a problem with Annie Hall. I just found it so self-indulgent that I wanted to vomit. That was my first exposure to Allen, and it really put me off. But my friends swear by Bullets Over Broadway and some others, so I'll give him more of a chance. He is very revered, so I think dismissing him after one piece would be silly.
The Frontline piece on Rwanda (Ghosts of Rwanda) is very damning. I think the producers definitely wanted to send a message, i.e., a judgment, of the US and greater international community's failure. It was quite persuasive. For example, early on, western countries made concerted efforts to get all their nationals out of the country. And yet they then say that they didn't intervene militarily because the situation was unclear. So, clear enough to fly all your people out, but not clear enough to get involved in the conflict itself? Troubling...
