Hey! I got my first rejection!
It's a bummer, but it's not a huge deal. Most journal submissions are rejected. And the version I sent it, it was a bit of a stinker. That said, I got some really great feedback: some data things to try, a suggestion to expand the dataset, a theoretical frame to explore, and a few historical details to include/sweep away.
I do wonder about this paper/chapter's fate. I thought this would be my job talk. But it's about Congress, and that's a whole can of worms that I'm pretty much just "dipping" my toe into. I think some of my other chapters, where I show off some more advanced statistic skills and go into less popular areas, manage to be done better, be more interesting, and are also considerably more unique.
I need to decide soon.
Otherwise, things trundle onwards.

It actually was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made, but that's not the point--procrastination baby.
