The other day, I was talking to E, and he was telling me how he was going to the symphony. I've never been, and he was telling me how really cool it is - even if you're not a big classical fan (E's favorite band is The Talking Heads, and not Mozart). As part of the conversation, he noted that he just feels like he's too old to start going keep going to shows at clubs and that the symphony had sort that place for him.

Lately, I've had that feeling - on occasion - that I'm a bit old for shows my own self. A few months ago, we saw the Black Lips at Logan Square Auditorium, and were clearly surrounded by high school kids. On Friday, we saw M.I.A. - and were once again surrounded by kids. There were a lot of photos being taken before the show, in a "I'm at my first concert!" kind of way. Also: we definitely sighted some parents who had been dragged along as chaperones/chauffeurs. Further evidence of how low the mean age was: no line for beer. I mean, right? I actually felt like I was at a Madonna show, circa 1986: all the kids were dressed in crazy day-glo outfits with ridiculous make-up. It was, honestly, pretty adorable.

None of this changes the fact that we felt old and more than a bit weird.
