A true irony: I study American political history, but I *hate* reading history.

Actually, the thing is, I don't really love American history that much. I mean, it's sort of interesting. What I'm really into is *institutions,* and I study them *through* history. And reading history sucks. It's just a list of shit that happened. There's no motivating theory. It bores the living fuck out of me.

Interesting. I just like studying things that interest me, period, and that selection is pretty whimsical. Since I'm long out of school this isn't a problem.

I *used* to think I hated history. But, when written properly, it's *all about* how large-scale structures have evolved.... or so says my armchair bullshit. I'm a philosopher. We're suspicious of history.
