I'm in sort of a "not updating" rut. So it goes.
Today, I hammered out the last paragraphs of my first swipe at a first draft of my first dissertation chapter. I'm not sure that's exactly as much of an accomplishment as it sounds like....
Basically, all the pieces are there - every section that I think has to be there, is there. And I can basically wring the analysis out of each section that I need. But a lot of it is based off secondary sources, some basic descriptive statistics, and some iffy argumentation. Right now, it's terribly bloated and awful repetitive. I need to do some archival work, whip up some maps, and work on a graph or two. Prolly should include some more secondary source work as well. It needs a MAJOR edit job. But it's at least "conference paper" worth (which is good, since I have to present it in about three weeks). It's sort of .... exciting.
In other news. things trudge on. The birthday and Valentine's Day were good. I'll try and bring you a real update soon.

glad to hear you're still trucking along.

West coast is just dandy. I've been having a really good time with it lately. I spend my first year here rushing home from lab to call the girlfriend who was two hours ahead, time-zone-wise and go to bed. After we broke up (which really was unfortunate), I've been working later, hanging out with friends here and being more positive about everything. 2007 is a good year, from what I can tell. I've been singing karaoke, seeing concerts and discovering Dance Dance Revolution.
