Not updating happens to the best of us.
Monday was my anniversary - I've been married for *three* years now. In a lot of ways it doesn't seem that long, but in a lot of ways it does. Not because it was bad, but because I got married just before I started graduate school (the second time). Since being married, I've finished courses, taken exams, written a 2nd thesis, written and defended a proposal, and am now (sorta) working on my dissertation. As we've been buying furniture and rearranging the apartment, I've been thinking back to when we first moved into the place three years ago. As my wife gets ready to quit her job and start school, I remember when she first started her job (and the first time she got sick and her new boss asked her "Oh, are you pregnant?" - Classy). Anyway, three years. Nuts.
On Saturday, we did the whole "going out for dinner" thing. We went to the Chicago Firehouse, which I'm pretty sure is in OJ's backyard. It was fun, one of those "triple digit" dinners that always makes you sort of uncomfortable. But hey, if it's good enough for the President....
I've been kicking ass getting lots of reading done. I'm now, tenatively, sticking my nose out there for data. Old census data is actually pretty sweet (at least by the time you hit 1850).
I saw Clerks II this weekend. It wasn't bad, but it was still disappointing. It was like a less insightful retread of the first one (sometimes literally). It also had a lot less heart. I know that Smith did the movie in part as a gift to Jason Mewes for ditching drugs .... I just wish he'd written something *better.* I was hoping for Chasing Amy with dick jokes. I got Jay and Silent Bob with a structure Smith flogged to death 10 years ago, with a lot more charm. So it goes.
It is hot.
I'm spent.

Happy anniversary! Hey, where are you in school? I'm doing my PhD down at the University of Chicago, dissertation stage, and am also working in 19th cent. America (antebellum, mostly)...
