Buying furniture is work. At least at IKEA. There was bending, lifting, sweating, silent angry stares, and *even* bickering. But, despite the marital storm clouds, fucking furniture-on-a-budget was purchased. And all ended well.

We actually went to BOTH Chicagoland IKEA's, since the first one we went to was out of stock of a *key* item. I believe I have met my IKEA quotient for a *lifetime*, friends and neighbors.

To accomplish all of this crass consumerism, we rented a car. And for about 20 minutes, I had the "I must own a car!" bug. Then we drove the 90/94. I couldn't WAIT to get my fat ass back on the bus, fer sure.

This week, more reading about railroad history and stewing over just how I'm going to construct my dissertation. Really, it's now just a question of what years and what states and just what I'll be measuring. The latter is going to depend mostly on what sort of data is available. The former two will depend on what cases I think I can theoreticallly defend *and* wring the most good shit from. Dissertations are dumb.
