You can always tell when I'm "on my own" for a few days by the way my activity on this site jumps up just a little bit .... 
I'm so damn close to a dissertation proposal I can taste it. E. feels like he knows what the hell I'm talking about .... yesssss..... Of course, I have three other readers that I need to get on board. But E - as the chair - is easily the biggest hurdle. I really want to be ABD in May. I'm not sure WHY I'm so insistent on this - even if I don't hit ABD until October, I'm still nearly a year ahead of the rest of my cohort. It's just my deadline, and I don't like not making deadlines.
Is it sad that I find reading the political history surrounding the construction of the Erie Canal terribly interesting?
