Happy New Year folks!
Did everyone have a good one? I hope so .... Mine was incredibly low-key. This used to be standard, but the last few years we actually did the whole party thing. We had an invite to a gathering ... but instead we stayed at home, ate ribs, made milkshakes, and watched Deadwood and Serenity. It was good stuff.
Anyway, I thought I might do a sort of "end of the year wrap-up." Not usually my speed, but it's good to try new things. At first pause, I thought the year was pretty boring and average. But, actually, things have been pretty nuts.
I mean, I finished my (second) MA last winter, despite faculty drama. Then, I finished my first exam in the spring and finished up the last of my required courses. Over the summer, the wife and I did Lollapalooza. In the fall, I took my *second* exam. Since then, I've been making progress on my proposal. Professionally, it's been a helluva busy year.
At the same time, my wife has shook everything all up. Last winter, she *finally* made the decision to go back to school. Since then, prepping for her PCAT (the pharmacy entrance exam) and applying to schools has pretty much taken up most of her free time since then.
On a more personal note, things continue to go well. We're still happy married. Sure, there was that whole getting mugged thing ... But, beyond that, I'm an incredibly happy and amazingly *lucky* person. I forget that ... but damn, my job is read stuff, think about it, and then write about it. Seriously, how can I complain?
What does 2006 hold? Moving. My wife's decision about where to go to school. Finishing my proposal, and actually starting the real meat of researching and writing my dissertation. Buying a car. Buying new furniture. Attending conferences.
I feel like I'm sort of about to finally arrive - as an adult, as a professional. I feel like my wife and I are a unit, we have a *home.* I have a project, and a life. Things ... they seem good.
Here's hoping your year is fantabulastic.

I suppose that is true. The ass has been known to be kicked by me, occasionally.
