Yesterday was an uncommonly fine day.

The wife and I went uptown, and we stopped in this great glass art store on Michigan Avenue. The first awesome thing was that we were able to find a Christmas present for my mom. THEN, we foud this totally bitching Christmas ornament:

It's a Frankenstein head! There was also a Von Dutch style eyeball and an allien head there that we have our eye on. Hilariously, our little 3 foot tree is much too small for the big ornaments we keep buying. Thus, our desire for big, cool ornaments - rather than any need/want of a big tree - is going to force us to already replace our (brand new...) fake Christmas tree.

Anyway, we kept wandering north, stopping off at the Virgin Megastore to get a DVD for my grandma's present. Then, we wandered through Heaven (re: The Apple Store), before making out way to Water Tower. There we had some tasty bao, and checked out sexy underwear. I pined away for roleplaying books (best find of the day: a World of Darkness sourcebook for Chicago, which included a great write-up on Hyde Park and the University of Chicago). We sent to Brookstone too, so I could replace my lost wallet and umbrella.

On our way, we saw two of the best things ever:

1. Something old: The Grad Student Dancing for Dollars! This guy is regularly up in the Magnificent Mile, getting his funk 70s-style to groovy disco tunes. He's just awesome. The wife always gives him a buck, in solidarity with grad students everywhere.

2. Something new: Santa in a Hatchback. Some guy, dressed as Santa, in a beat-up old car. The car was decorated, complete with tree on top, wreath on back, holiday wishes pained on the side and bulbs on the hubcaps (best rims ever?). It was great.

Finally, we made out way to 600 N. Michigan to check out King Kong. It wasn't everything I wanted (more on that another day), but I was entertained. Finally, we got home, warned up leftovers, ate pie, and watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith (a movie I adore, because Angelina Jolie is painfully sexy, Brad Pitt has charisma plus some to burn, and stuff blows up real good).

It was one of those days that made me feel good about this city again. I'd sort of lost my faith after last week...

Today has mostly been about being lazy. I'm going to read a trashy novel for a while. It's nice.

Hope all is good out there.

I like your Frankenstein.

In response to the grocery shopping-- I agree that if you must go, it is best to do so as late at night as possible. Or on Friday night, when people with lives aren't out getting groceries. I also discovered awhile back that it's much better for my marriage if he and I never set foot in a grocery store together again. whatever
