I adore going to breakfast with job candidates. Yeah, the food is never that great - but it *is* free. And it's just fun to meet folks, see what they are up to, and to imagine *what could be.*

Enough on that.

The weekend was good. Friday, we put up our Christmas decorations. Which isn't much - a 3ft tree, a few other things. But it still looks nice - very holiday. We just Saturday at home, watched some crazy shows on TLC. One was about Oliver, the "humanzee" - which is a human/chimp hybrid. Anyway, it turns out Oliver is NOT a humanzee - just a regular chimp. But he's odd - he walks on two feet (like all the time), prefers the compnay of humans, has a head smaller then most chimps, and is *really* intelligent. It was really fascinating. Of course, since it was on TLC - it didn't get much into the *science* of him.

One thing the wife and I wondered: could Oliver have some type of developmental problem, something like the ape version of Down's symndrome? Many of the people on the show seem to think that he's a mutation - suggesting implicity through their tone that he was a *progression* and one of a kind. And he certainly is amazing - but maybe other chimps are born like him, but most die in the wild. Maybe we're just anthropomorpizing onto a a "different" chimp. Maybe a *problem* rather than some "advancement" explains his behavior better. Anyway, it was just somehting we thought about. It was cool.

Saturday - I got some work done. No writing, but I pulled quotations and organized my notes. I did some good thinking. Tuesday - there *wll* be some goddamned writing, I promise. wink

Sunday - we ran some errnads (socks and gloves were needed). Then we saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was good stuff. Though, Harry Potter always just strikes me in a weird way. I have a good time at the movies and stuff, I just don't get the "Harry Potter crazy." I especially don't get *adults* who get all nuts over the books. They're totally fun, I see that. But don't seem to have a lot of richness or sophistication to them - even in comparison to other children's lit. I mean, I'm no expert on it - so this is just pure opinion. But here's an example (minor spoiler etc): at one point, Snape tells Harry that he has a "truth serum." At the same time, there is this ongoing conflict in the movie/series: how do we know who real followers of Voldermort are, and how do we know who was under his domination? Well. Wouldn't the truth serum be a great way to figure that out? Again: I still think Harry is loads of fun. But just big, goofy wholes like that - it makes me wonder how adults get so into it?

Anyway, that was it. Nothing exciting. Hope everyone else had a good weekend.
obd:
the movies are ok. good luck with the writing.

Totally love Oliver! He is so creepy and sad. I have read all this wierd shit on him, but I never seem to come to any conclusion about where I think he came from. Still, it's interesting.
