This weekend we did the big "there and back again" extravaganza. On Friday, we rented a car and trucked down to Champaign, since my wife was taking her big PCAT on Saturday. In terms of the PCAT? Well, she won't get the score for about a month - but my wife says she felt really good about it. So, there you go. Fingers crossed and all that.
I have to say, my wife totally blows me away. She just impresses the fuck out of me. She's spent about the last five months prepping for the PCAT. The PCAT itself is a helluva test: there is biololgy (molecular, genetics, ecology, anatomy), chemistry (general, organic), reading comprehension, vocabulatry, math (albegry, trig, geometry, basic calculus), AND a writing section. So, she spent the last few months working through text books, practice tests, and online test prep courses.
Of course, at the same time, she was working a full 40 work week. And for the past two months, she's been taking a 4 hour anatomy class every Saturday. Plus, every morning she gets up and works out. Every nite, we cook supper and clean up the kitchen. We clean every Sunday.
On top of all this? We manage to find time every weekend to eat out or see a movie or do a little shopping or whatever.
I dunno, she just blows me away. She focuses in a way that I never could. She gets shit done. She's bad ass. I'm such a wuss.
So, to get back to the weekend ... after the PCAT, we trucked over to Bloomington-Normal. The wife got a chance to catch up with her old advisor, and then we wandered around campus and what not. The university (ISU), and Normal, have changed quite a bit in just the the two years we've been gone. Lots of new buildings and renovations. It was that whole "you can't go home again." Anyway, then today, we cruised home again. It was a nice little adventure.
In other news: with two folks turned down for tenure, the rumor is my department is "this close" to imploding/exploding/whatever it is that always makes things go fuck-all here. So woohoo for that!

Imagine this though: last year, me on a the flight out to Europe, within reaching distance of about 3 screaming babies. I think I watched the second Matrix movie 5 times. Everything else on there was even worse. Oh my.
