you know, i have the attention span of a gnat and generally kill plants. when i first got the orchid i babied it, misted it, found just the right spot for it. . . .

then i got distracted. i looked at it again three months later, and it was blooming! i must have a lot of natural humidity in my sunroom.

Match Point looks like it will be a good film. And Scarlett Johannsen is in it, so that's pretty much all the motivation I need.

I've seen the Deadwood a few times, and it's a pretty good show. HBO just seems to have the whole series thing down to an art form. Myself, I'm waiting with anticipation for season 2 of Rome...

Actually, I haven't read Alexander, there's something about the New Urbanists that I just don't trust [though Duany's Transect concept is interesting. You really do need to get your hands on a copy of Variations on a Theme Park edited by Michael Sorkin. It's about as old as Edge Cities. Mike Davis also touches on some of these issues, though everything I've seen of his is focused on LA [totally off subject, my favorite chapter title: The Case for Letting Malibu Burn in Ecology of Fear]. I really do think you'll find the Sorkin book useful. Good luck.

I miss college. Not classes so much as the lifestyle. Good, "free" food that appeared like clockwork. All your friends in one building. So few worries. *sigh*

Just wanted to add another tidbit about cars. Make sure to checkout rent-a-car places. They usually have good deals and the cars are always fairly new and in good condition. The drawback is that you can't be picky. If you find a car you like its probably the only one of its kind on the lot, no upgrading and no getting it in another color.

What did you guys end up doing about Christmas since you didn't move?

Dude....Nip/Tuck is so sick and over the top, you'll be hooked by the end of the first episode. Rent the first season...you'll see.....

Oh man, I don't know about Deadwood, I've never seen it, but Carnivalle is fantastic....however, it got cancelled after only 2 seasons, So maybe it's best not to set yourself up for disappointment.

All right, I stopped reading after spoilers should follow. I hope you enjoyed it, but I still want to see it.

Those are interesting points. Jackson said the original Kong was the movie that made him want to be a director, so I think a lot of the schlocky stuff was a nod to that. Hell, he even had Denham throw out Faye Wray's name at the beginning when they were listed possible replacements for the female lead.

I feel like Jackson has a sense of humor about what he does. It came across in the Rings trilogy and it comes across in Kong. Honestly, most film makers from down under seem to have this sensibility. Ever seen Dead Alive? It could be a truly horrifying and distrubing movie, but turns out being really funny and entertaining. Maybe that's just how they like their movies down there.
