my first friday back in alaska (3rd day back in town) and im drunk enough to wobble when i intend to stand, and chuckling subtly at my own simple dichotomy... one minute ready for anything, the next incoherent and ready to pass out....whoosh, i'm in vacation land, hopefully i can settle down before i do anything too stupid,

no worries, tonight, i pass out skull happily

we tramped about in the chill driving rain today, mountains curtained in mists and cloud cover folded around us. Steep sided valleys of lush botanica and a single track of dirt road to be devoured under the carriage of our vehicle. Cold, wet, running down the path and slipping in the saturated mud, I watched the tall sheer faces of granite darken with wet, the...

That's a pretty evocative picture you've painted there.
Question: who's 'we'?

Maybe I should try and paint you an evocative picture of all the beautiful French girls who keep walking past the door of this internet caf on their way out for Friday night while I sit her like a lemon typing nonsense...

biggrin wink

so i made it, my escape is rendered successful, "new" life has started up...i think i'm just a touch out of it, or travel shocked, or in a rare state of disorientation to really comment further.

i remember so much of this place and i haven't been here for years and years

ok, back again ~ and word. how can you stand such a place for longer than ten minutes? terribly taxing, that.

i'm sure your duffel bag has wearied you quite a bit! at least you are paused within the dynamic of your latest adventure, and able to sort things out a bit, yes? hopefully you are giving yourself proper time to rest et acclimate.

looking foward to reading of your adventures!

in short: me is in LA, 3/4 of my worldly possessions crammed into one helluva oversized duffle. I've been here slightly more than a day, and have not yet even put a proper buzz on, much less gotten tanked. a new record i think.went to disneycapital, and...

I don't know, he's not even in Alaska yet and he's started talking about bears, to wit:
'sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you...

But seriously, thanks for the advice. (I have had a load of it following my rather sombre last post, most of it very interesting.) I have, in fact, been trying my best to smile at all the beautiful boys and girls in Paris, but it's a struggle as smiling doesn't come naturally (see earlier journal about my 'parsimonious mouth')...
Today, in fact, after working all day, I went out at rush hour and rode around on the metro just so I could stare at people and practise smiling (I managed it once or twice, actually, which is better than nothing).
I'm intrigued by the other bit of your advice, though, about sitting in a park and studying the behaviour of all the people who interest me. Is this supposed to make it easier for me to smile, is it a kind of meditation, what?

confused

PS - I remember when you parked out front of Disneyland too (i was 9 or something). Where do you park now (out back, underneath? Am I missing something here?)
arachnequarius:
oh wow - that is right - i remember that you were going to alaska. that is soooo completely brave of you! especially after living in california. is there a particular reason? do you just love the pipeline? (ok, that sounded dirrrrty) confused

further adventures, eh? that sounds awesome! how cool ~ just changing up the life like this is amazing. admiration to you, kind sir. kiss

ok, here's the deal, the fine print, the proverbial catch. you leave me a message, commment, email me, ask me a question, sing me a song, say hi, say you hate me, say whatever, and i will not respond in any way. not immediately in any event. But you must comment, about whatever, its in the contract. hell write a 100 word essay on whatever...

*(to the tune of Sheryl Crow [or Mrs Lance Armstrong as she is known over here]):

'All I wanna do is have some fun
I've got a feeling I'm not the only one...'

I admire your ambition to 'have a little fun' and I like your conclusion that Paris is, ultimately, here for us to 'enjoy the living shit out of it'. How right you are, my friend!

And of course I will leave you a comment, how could I fail to repay your fidelity during my long absences wandering around Paris by neglecting you during your Alaskan installation?

I look forward to hearing details.

I know what it's like to be going cold turkey from SG, though, and to fear that people will forget you or not leave messages when you're not there... It's a constant pull on my mind while I have this insufficient internet access in Paris...

By the time you're back online, I could be heading for Australia. (I thought I'd slip this in in case you miss my latest journal entry) The University of Adelaide has invited to pay for me to fly out for a job interview and, fuck, who am I to turn down a free trip to Australia, even if it will be short and punishing...
I am about to get in touch with SG Australia to see if they have any members in Adelaide...

tonight is goodly. no death in the chest, just a little raspy what-not or two, maybe a small devilkin thing still trying to toy with my innards. 12 hours of sleep will bore the hell out of any common infection i think. even got in some walking and managed to end the no coffee streak at one day. whew man sakes praise jesus, i didn't...

Most amusing descriptions of your illness - sorry to be chuckling at your misfortune, but there you go. biggrin

You can get your own back, if you like, by laughing at me as I've had a crippling hangover all day and am now struggling to focus as I sit in the internet caf swaying gently and emitting the occasional moan.

So, but you still haven't answered my question(s):
WHEN are you going to AK (OK you actually answered that one in your last jrnl - 15 days, yes?)
WHERE in AK are you going?
WHAT are you going to do when you get there?

People on SG seem to have a habit of deliberately avoiding answering direct questions which I confess to finding rather endearing...
(so don't answer if you don't want to!)

evil death inhabits my throat, every time i swallow, small nodules of sharp mechanical resolve spike out ward from the depths of my vocal chords. when i cough, alien engine sludge speckles the inside of my lungs, forming an easy going slime with a great IPO. oh and when i sneeze.. oh jesus, the pain

so is this bad?

in other news, at least i'll...

Did I know you were going to Alaska? I don't recall knowing this... I know I've talked about Alaska with various people on this site, but I didn't think you were one of them... confused

May I request details? Sorry to hear about the car, but glad you're enjoying the walking. I may have mentioned this before, but I find walking an invaluable means of scoping and sizing and claiming a territory. I have resolved to do as much of it as possible in Paris.

i am now the proud owner of transport across and out of California. Plane tix, and a combo of a profound sense of relief and utter defeat. To sum up, i'm a little shaken. And on top of that, one of my psychologically horrible dream sets, and a visit from the ex, i'm feelin right as fucking black rain. on the good side, George the...

So what's all this about pal? I had assumed that, by reading back thru yr blogs I might discover what's been going on with you, but no I find only tales of slapping whipped cream off Suicide Girls' asses (nice work if you can get it) wink

Let us in, let us in, by the hairs on my chinny chin chin.

Good to hear you've got the cat back tho'...
arachnequarius:
my precious, such and much, eh? hopefully the black rain has settled into a deeper, more restorative mist by now. and the cat is giving you much love. as we've the same dreams, i will gladly take a bit of your demon, and send you a bit of mine, since sometimes a demon exchange is more comedic than terrorizing ... deal? smile

sending you comfort and squeezes to continue your momentum forward. kiss
