i'm one of those girls who fear the officiating of relationships with the gf/bf titles, although i haven't quite figured out exactly why the words are so scary...i mean....it's not like it hurts any less if something goes awry with something you're emotionally invested in, by not labeling it a certain way?

if you make it a big issue, it might just reaffirm her reasons for not wanting to be called a girlfriend. I'd say the most important thing is that you keep communication open and you both know what is and is not okay to do with other people while involved with each other.
