The Shocking Truth About Zombies....
I had originally thought zombies had been a uniquely american invention... but having dont further research on the subject... ive come to find out the shocking truth. Zombies are in fact.. Canadian. Yup.. due to favorable tax insentives and union trouble.. all zombies have fled north of the border to find work.. do to the economic realities of the movie making industry.
Had it not been for a chance look at a pay roll sheet, i would never have suspected it... but having seen that most zombies were paid in canadians dollars, my curiosity was sparked.... and the dark canadian secret was about to be revealed.
The original Night of the Living Dead was filmed in the US as was a few others.. but it seems circumstances and economics have driven the undead north of the border... here are the facts i have uncovered that have lead me to this conclusion..
In the US..a non-union zombie would make $9 (canadian) per hour while a union zombie in Canada has to work for a minimum of 8 hours, would make $158.(canadian) which is $19.75 and hour!!!
Facts learned from the filming of Land of the Dead...
George A. Romero' intended to make this film in his home town Pittsburgh - the story is set there and it's where he made his other zombie films. However his producers insisted on filming Toronto in order to take advantage of Canadian tax incentives... and the ready availability of zombies.
George A. Romero was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright's Shaun of the Dead (2004) that he asked them to appear in this, the fourth part of his "Dead" series, possibly in cameos as zombies...but as they were not canadian.. it didnt happen
There were three titles before "Land of the Dead" was chosen: "Dead City", "Dead Reckoning" and "Night of the Living Dead: Dead Reckoning"... but as Canada has litterally become The Land of the Dead.. this title was chosen as not to upset the zombie population in North America.
The vehical Dead Reckoning in the movie is actually the center piece of Canada's military strength.
Dawn of the Dead...Remake..
Unlike the original Dawn Of The Dead (1978), which was filmed in a mall open for business (during non-business hours), this remake's mall scenes were shot at the former Thornhill Square Mall in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, an abandoned mall that was slated for demolition sometime after shooting completed.
One of the invoices in "Andy's Gun Works" is made out to Nicholas Gazda who is the first assistant art director of this movie.... Mr Gazda is suspected to be canadian.
Members of Rue-Morgue Magazine, a Canadian-based publication had cameo's as zombies in the film.
The cause of the dead returning to life was never determined in the movie. On the back of the DVD box, it is said to be the NHL hockey strike.
One of the most gruesome "zombies" (the bloated woman killed with a fireplace poker), was actually played by a man... a canadian man
Most of the zombie makeup was modeled after real and gruesome forensic photos... of dead canadians
The two zombies with missing limbs (the jogger missing an arm and the legless zombie in the parking garage) were both played by actual canadian amputees. The same thing was done for one of the first zombies seen in the original Dawn of the Dead (1978).
Some of the video clips in the opening credits were actual stock news footage, such as the scene of a truck driving into a crowd of Canadians.
When Andy meets his demise, it seems that his head explosion was a CGI constructed effect, however it was done using Andy's real head.. aparently.. Andy was Canadian as well.
