Getting into the spirit for the car show this weekend, I will continue with the second half of my two-part Springsteen journal.

Yesterday's lyrics were more the "stay and rot" sort, so today it's "escape and burn."

In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream.
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines.
Sprung from cages on Highway 9,
Chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected
And steppin' out over the line.
Baby this town rips the bones from you back,
It's a death-trap, it's a suicide rap.
We gotta get out while we're young,
'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

So construction started at 7 again this morning. But I went to bed at a decent hour last night, so I'm not quite as pissed about it as I was yesterday.

Last night I watched Clueless. I'd forgotten what a clever and entertaining movie that is. I get a kick out of Cher not really being dumb, like one would expect. Ditzy, maybe, but not at all stupid. Plus, who can turn down a movie with Alicia Silverstone in lots of short skirts and dresses? love

Still haven't heard anything on my resume. I have no idea why employers don't like me; I guess they don't want educated, intelligent, hard-working employees.

I guess I'll just have to be Taoist about it. Something will work itself out. Though I find that Tao can be something of a trap at times - inaction and the like being a sham. There are times for inaction, but there are times which also require action. Wisdom is knowing which time is which. But anyway...

I've found something that really bothers me. Why do people interrupt decent, worthwhile conversations with idiocy? I don't mean they're trying to make a valid point, and fail. I mean just random, stupid comments. Example:

Person 1: I think William Faulkner is an unmitigated ass. His stream-of-consciousness makes him impossible to read - sentences that go on for pages and pages with no sort of internal logic or organization to them. It puts one's brain to sleep.

Person 2: I disagree. I think that device was an important literary creation. It paved the way for future generations of authors, and allowed them to disregard the stodgy rules of grammer, etc. Faulkner's work is also an important glimpse into life in the South during his time. No one was writing about the South then.

Idiot: Penis!

All right, it's funny on Family Guy, but remember: Peter is a loud-mouthed idiot. People who attempt to imitate him in real life should be shot. Luckily this mostly happens on the boards; if someone did this to me in real life I think there would be a knifing. Or at least a strangling. I actually met someone who was a real-life Peter Griffin, and would do things like this. I'm not really a violent person, but I wanted his head on a stake.

Do they feel their intellects are not up to creating something worthwhile to say in such a conversation, and so have to drag the intelligence of the room down to their level?

But contemplating the actions of imbeciles is futile.

Have a great weekend everyone!

kiss
