So I bought some new jewelry. Check out the Road ID. Personal identification gear. Since I'm often out cycling and walking by myself, I thought it would be a good thing to have.

I got the interactive model, which lets you keep an emergency profile online--contacts, allergies, medications--rather than try to cram it all onto the tag. I was concerned about the security of the arrangement, but I researched the company and they're ok.

I was, however, amused by this clause in the legal stuff:

ROAD ID HEREBY DISCLAIMS ANY LIABILITY TO YOU, TO USERS OF THE ROAD ID EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM, OR TO ANY OTHER PARTY FOR ANY DAMAGES OR INJURY THAT MAY RESULT FROM THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE ROAD ID EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY DAMAGES OR INJURY CAUSED BY FAILURE OF PERFORMANCE, ERROR, OMISSION, INTERRUPTION, DELETION, DEFECT, DELAY IN OPERATION OR TRANSMISSION, COMPUTER VIRUS, COMMUNICATION SERVICE FAILURE, THEFT OR DESTRUCTION OR UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO, ALTERATION OF, OR USE OF SUCH RECORD OR OF ANY COMPUTER OR COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM UNDER ANY LEGAL THEORY OR CAUSE OF ACTION.

Wait. What? Isn't the whole point of of your service to be able to provide that information at any time, because my life may depend on it?

I would have stopped right there, but in my previous research I learned that in addition to security, they also have some pretty serious disaster contingencies.

So far I'm pretty impressed.
