so at one point in time my friend and i had this idea that we were going to try to visit different out of the way dive bars all around this area and then kind of compile a manual or guidebook of sorts. i find it really interesting that even if a small town does not have a grocery store or really shops of any sort it will usually have a bar. and there are so many small towns around davis that it is actually pretty easy to find a different bar to go to each week.

all of this was motivated by the fact that we loved going to the cabin in elmira, and in talking with my manager at work, i found out about several other bars in the area. so one night we headed out to judy's wild wrangler saloon in allendale, where they have live country music on saturday nights. but beyond that the bar is kind of boring. and last night even though i did not go with the same friend, i added plainfield station to the list, however it was painfully slow last night (we were the only people in the entire bar) and so we ended up at the cabin. which was fun because out of our small group i was the only one who'd been there before. whenever anyone new comes along it is always amusing to watch them react to the bar.

i am not sure if we are really going to continue this experiment or not, but i really like going to these out of the way bars because i feel like they reflect the culture around them in a really interesting way, plus they are good places to drink
