Yesterday was the senior art major open house. We all had to put on display everything we'd done so far for our thesis project, along with books, notes, sketches, photocopies of resources, whatever. Then we had to sit by the display for several hours and explain to art faculty members (and whoever else wandered by) what the project was all about. Aside from the faculty and a few friends who were coerced into showing up, it was mostly a gaggle of freshmen, looking terribly bored, who came by and pawed through my stuff. I tried to be perky and explain/discuss what was going on, but they all just sort of looked at me with glassy eyes. Happily, the art profs seemed to like where I was coming from. The most critical thing any of them said to me was that my photos looked "too beautiful," and too much like they were from a magazine. Well, that really ISN'T what I want them to look like, so it was sad to hear, but, well shit, as far as criticisms go, that's not too bad, eh?

The best thing that happened was one of the "cool dykes" on campus came over to me and said, "I love your work. If I shave my head into a mohawk, can I be one of your models?" Fuckin a! She'd be perfect. Thank god, too, because I cannot find models around here. What I need for the project is non-mainstream young women (basically, an sg. except hotness is not a requirement). Will explain my project in next journal entry... No energy now.
