I'll assume you've read Magister Ludi by Hesse. You certainly share his style.
If I'm correct, Richard Matheson wrote teleplays for The Twilight Zone. Specifically, I remember that he wrote The Mosters Are Due on Maple Street. Have you read this? I haven't read it in years, but I bet it would feel all too true these days.
We read Childhood's End in ninth or tenth grade. Fucking Royalton Masons. Was A. Joy still there when you were there? My fav NR teacher.
