Your heart can heal. From your writing your pain seems very real to me. But you are not just your depression, I think your seeking help from a therapist is a sign that you realize you are more than just someone who had a messed up relationship.

You deserve someone who treats you well and you deserve to be happy. I hope your depression is short lived.

I can see your therapist's veiwpoint. Starting a new romantic relationship can muddy any efforts to deal with issues from a previous relationship.

I totally I understand your desire to make new connections, whether dating or freindship that further support your leaving the past relationship behind.

Also this new guy if he has a brain he'll understand if you tell him your situation. He may turn out to be a good friend, If he flakes stay strong and hang in there, it will get better.
