So...I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory today...not only saw the movie, but had a total Willy Wonka experience. I got a Willy Wonka t-shirt at Hot Topic which i wore to the movie, then while in grocery store after the movie, saw Chocolicious Wonka cakes (basically just Hostess chocolate cupcakes but with purple icing and the cream in the middle is purple)...ut what a marketing gimick. Kids like me will be stomping their feet in the grocery aisle yelling "I WANT MY WONKA CAKES!" Yes i actually did it, too...was fun...got a look from a couple people...oh to be a kid.
Anyway...the movie was FANTASTIC! very well done effects and set and scenery and costume and etc. Johnny Depp was fabulous as Willy Wonka...not the sweet, sentimental character of Gene Wilder in the musical version of the 1980's, but rather a lonely, eccentric man who had a rotten childhood and had no social graces to speak of and at times was quite rude to the children. But they were rotten, rude, selfish children, so that was ok. He was really sweet to Charlie, in his own way. And the story has a good message...Greediness will not get you what you want. The mishaps those children fall into due to their greed is quite comical. And it also teaches kids to love and value their familes, as Charlie did and taught Willy Wonka to do.
I would go see this over and over and over...I may just do that. I'm definitely buying it when it comes out on DVD. Now I think I need to read the book. (After I finish Guenever and then read Harry Potter book 6 anyway)
