And this:

There is (or was) 26 of these little critters up around Perth. Some interesting street art by theis bloke calling himself Invader. The Perth invasion was done in 2002 as pert of the Mono:Culture exhibition organised by the Bread Box gallery in the city.

Now the top pic is the freeway footbridge in the city. You need to be travelling south to see it. The bottom pic is at the South Perth ferry terminal. They're two of the obvious ones. One used to be on the building that's now part of Planet Video, visible from the Flying Scotsman. A number of others are missing, presumed redecorated.

After a bit of hunting on the interweb a few months ago my friend Ryan and I came across the website: www.space-invaders.com and more importantly this invasion map. So armed with lap-top, digital camera and kick ass tunes we've so far managed to document the existance of 10 of the 26 invaders. We have unconfirmed sightings of 4 others. We're also pretty sure of 3 locations that no longer exist.

Gotta catch em all!

//==================

Speaking of kickass tunes I've been investing some time in some artists that I'd not had the pleasure to listen to before:

Avenged Sevenfold - First ran into them on the NHL 06 soundtrack. Bat Country. Kind of reminds me of Hunter S Thompson eh? The albums a bit Old School, these guys know how to play rather than just the noise mash of most modern metallers. I'm digging it, but someone round here called them a rip-off of a group called Falconer, whom I've not heard... so more listening awaits.

Bullet For My Valentine - Some of the guitar these guys put out is so reminiscent of Iron Maiden. These guys and Avenged Sevenfold have re-kindled a desire to play music again, so if anyone wants to sell me some gear cheap eh? The albums title track, The Poison, is a favourite.

Celldweller - The self titled album was out a few years ago so I'm well surprised by this. It's Klayton Scott, formally of Circle of Dust and Prong to name others. And it's damn hard to classify. Nu Metal (hate that label) vs Trance vs other electronica. The closest comparison I can get is NIN without the edginess of songs like Wish and the epic nature of things like Perfect Drug. It's got a better flow and catchiness though. That said, I guarantee die-hard Reznor fans will hate this. I wholly recommend folks listen to The Last Firstborn just as a taster.

Hazen St - NY til we die. A bit of a a NY punk supergroup here, bring a pretty easygoing album. And another one of those groups with a song I've heard years ago, and I finally catch the album and it's all good. It's been in my car a lot of recent times, good to sing along and make traffic look at you weirdly. Always a bonus smile

Fort Minor - Shinoda's taking over the globe. No, I'm not a big Hip-Hop afficionado. Yes, I am a Linkin Park fan. No, I don't want to cut myself. Any more questions? Shinoda's a great musical talent, let be said I pretty much enjoy whatever he works with no matter what genre.

Other stuff I've been listening recently to but hasn't grabbed me completely:
- Institure (Gavin Rossdale's new band)
- Seven Wiser
- Turmion Katilot (a Finnish Rammstein clone with more umlauts than I can type)
- American Head Charge (It think it's the word American that's the hang up here)

So everyone now needs to let me know of some more awesome tunes to listen from bands I've not heard much of. biggrin

I figured I'd edit this one rather than have a fresh new update to let you know of my sporting prowess.

I've had pre-season hockey training and indoor soccer tonight, my left knees feeling funny from hockey, and my right thigh is corked and I rolled my left ankle playing soccer. I currently have frozen beans strapped to my thigh, and peas strapped to my knee.

Ahm dead sexah!
