The man and I watched a cool documentary last night called Modify. You can probably guess it was about people that had some pretty fucked off and extreme piercings and tattoos. Not really my cup of tea, but it brought up some good points.
The subjects of body building and women and men that get more "socially acceptable" body modifications, such as breast augmentations, nose jobs, liposuction etc, were also mentioned in depth. Which I appreciated, because I have never understood why having bigger boobs or a perfect nose is so important in mainstream society, but you are deemed a scumbag if you have a bunch of piercings or tattoos. It's really the same thing if you think about it, it is all changing your body in some way to make you look how you want to look.
I really don't want implants in my forehead to make me look like I have horns, I don't want to swing from hooks in my back, and I doubt I ever will tattoo my face for any reason. That is my choice. The people that have extreme shit done to their appearance are people too, and I was glad most of them portrayed in the documentary were intelligent and articulate people.
I did cringe a bit, as did my boyfriend, when one guy cut his weenie open and inserted some ball bearings in it that poked up through the flesh, I don't really get that. The tongue splitting scene was also bloody as hell and kind of fucked off to me, but so be it.
I just don't want to be behind the dude they showed with approximately 60 piercings in his face at the metal detector at the airport
My boy and I both agreed that we would rather hang out with the "freaks" on the show over some tanned, bleached, fake boobied, liposuctioned, vapid douche
