I was pondering the concept of inspiration and the positive force it can be in our lives. Inspiration can enrich your life in so many ways that money cannot reach. Whatever your goal, words of inspiration can be the catalyst that gives you the courage to make things happen.
Find Inspiration
"As I grow older part of my emotional survival plan must be to actively seek inspiration instead of passively waiting for it to find me."
Inspiration is not going to charge up to your door like a white knight to wisk you away....
If you are wondering where to find inspiration, you can find it everywhere you look. For some people, inspiration comes after reading a book; for others, seeing an exquisite sunset can inspire them. An inspiring speech may move you to take action or you may discover that it was right there in front of you the whole time.
Find Inspiration Within You
"Every person, especially every woman, should be alone sometime during the year, some part of each week, and each day."
The world within you is too often untapped due to lack of time and the demands of others. Find some time each day to ponder you and all that you are and wish to be. Journal, meditate, go for a walk alone. Create a space for yourself where you can be alone with your thoughts. Perhaps a chair and small table with a lamp on it in the corner of your bedroom can be your quiet place. A bench outside that allows you the freedom to just be for a short while will give you time and space to find out what inspires you.
Invite Inspiration
"Inviting your creative inspirations into your consciousness alters the course of your life."
When inspiration becomes elusive, invite it back in to your life. We become so overwhelmed with work, spouse, children and doing for others that losing the definition of who you are creates angst and resentment. Losing inspiration for doing the things that bring joy and excitement in life is like breaking off a piece of your heart.
Before you reclaim the lost inspiration, you must allow yourself to be inspired. You need to get out of the everyday rut and back into life. Go to a movie, sit at a beach, dance, sing, laugh or play. Too many times, we feel a constant tug from different directions, leaving nothing for us to claim as our own. Unless you allow yourself to be inspired, inviting it in will do no good.
Inspiring Words
"One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats."
Now this does not mean that you need to constantly shop and buy yourself little treats because you "need" it. Money has nothing to do with it. We are supposed to be adults here. It's an extremely shallow, childish, person that needs to be showered with gifts or spend money on themselves to be "happy".
I'm talking about something deeper here. Words can take the most stoic person's breath away. Beautiful, haunting words can inspire people to do all sorts of unexpected things. Find a short inspirational quote and turn it into your mantra for success and motivation. Like a continuous small treat, words of inspiration constantly reassure when feelings of doubt enter the mind and soul. Read your word treat every day as an affirmation to find inspiration and live a fuller life.
Stake Your Inspirational Claim
"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it."
When words of inspiration fail to spark the proper feeling, it's time to head out the door and into the world. Take a walk through a park, sip on coffee at a caf and watch people or even go to a movie. Just being outdoors and indulging your senses can revive you. Before you know it, the well that seemed dry refills with life experiences and you feel exhilarated.
Benefit from Inspiration.
"Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself."
An inspired person is a motivated person who takes action. The benefit from being inspired comes with moving in a direction that you wish to go. The inspiration to paint a picture, write a book, or start your own business, puts the wheels in motion. Whether your achievement touches only you or millions of others, you will feel a true sense of self and wonderment at the journey.
"Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially their children than the unlived life of the parent." Think of the pride your child and family exhibit when you achieve your heart's desire or goals. It's a spine-tingling moment when a child tells a parent how proud they are of YOU.
Inspiration, like a lover, makes people shiver with anticipation and delight in the adventure. That "a-ha" moment brings a smile to the face and suddenly the world seems less daunting. It's a great way to feel!
Whether the inspiration came from people watching, stopping to really see the beauty of a flower or from words of inspiration, it's been discovered. Once you become inspired, hold fast to what inspired you and why. The saying, "get out there, follow your dream" should move you forward. "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it."
Your choices affect every fiber of your life and the quality of your life.
They effect how you react to adversity - Do you rise above it or do you let it conquer you? Do you blame others for everything that is negative in your life, or can you accept your own responsibility for it?
How you react to the helping hands that are extended to you - Do you listen and consider their advice, or do you close your mind and push them away?
If you are unhappy in your job - Do you complain bitterly about it, or do you first examine what you can change about it that will make it better, get the skills needed to find a better one, or even continue to search until you find the one that is "just right"?
In handling money - Do you have the fortitude to say no to a "treat", to pay the bills, or put the needs of other before yours?
Your ethics and integrity will color how others view you. Flowery words will not overcome being caught in a lie. People have long memories ......
So, are You Living Your Life To The Fullest?
James Dean once said, "Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today." Do you take time to pursue your passions or are you a slave to the daily grind? It's not the destination, it's the journey that counts. You choose whether you live a life or serve a life sentence. Your choice....

That is one of my favorite poems of all time. I actually posted it in my journal several months ago... before I went to the beach. And you are right. I need to get myself there again. Have a great Thanksgiving!
