on saturday i went to the one day frightfest and it was fairly disappointing frown

first up was Death Trance which given the name wasn't all that terrible. it also had steven seagal's son in it... basically it was kind of set in what you would assume to me medieval japan, only thay have guns and a motorbike and all the fight scenes are played out to the sounds of japanese heavy metal music. very strange indeed and not to be taken seriously, but overall a lot of fun.

next was The Wicker Man, which i had seen a million times so at that point I went for lunch and had a yummy vegetraian bento box in china town smile

then there was the abomination that is also know as Mortuary... I swear Tobe Hooper should have given up a long long time ago because he hasn't done anything even close to watchable since Poltergeist in 1982 and even that was nowhere near Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I won't bore you with the plot (or lack there of), just avoid this movie at all costs!

After that was Reeker, which i had high hopes for. However, it sucked. I liked it up until about halfway though then it just became silly, i mean its about a smelly monster (hence reeker) who resembles the grim reaper yet has these weird mechanical appendages, anyways it doesn't really matter because come the end of the movie the biggest dallas style cop-out unfolds and dun dun dun... none of it really happened! LAME. However it did have brian krakow from my so called life in it and steve rodgers (you know the guy in the band she has a huge crush on) from welcome to the dollhouse in it (who also coincidently are both in the l-word together too). anyway, don't bother with that one either.

then came Hostel, which was the main reason i was there, being one of the only people who really liked Cabin Fever i was excited to see what eli roth had done next. needless to say i wasn't disappointed, if you want a decent b-movie filled with tits and gore then this is for you. amusingly it also pokes fun at americans and their being gullible and out of their depth in foreign countries, i think it was wrongly criticised for being xenophobic because really i think it was more anti-american than anything else, and besides i think that in this world if you have the money and the connections then you can probably do anything you want, i doubt you have to go all the way to slovakia. it was probably just cheaper to film there. as for it being misogynistic, eli roth clearly likes women... A LOT and the characters they played were clearly in control and were fully aware of what they were doing. i think a lot of the bad press given to this movie was unjust, at the end of the day its a fun movie clearly made by a fanboy who relishes every stomach churning moment. usually i am completely unphased by violence and gore but the bit with the ankle kinda made me flinch, and the pus filled eye was a bit icky puke if you are a horror fan then i would definately recommend this.

Then they showed Theatre of Blood but i went home instead because getting the night bus on your own sucks on a saturday night & it was pretty late as it was.

Oh and i also got a scanner/printer thingy so now i can scan & print things... yay!

On sunday i watched Planet Earth, has anyone been watching it? In my fantasy family David Attenborough would so be my grandad. Call me a dork but i LOVE nature documentaries!

I Have Seen the Future - and its Goth
This is a funny article i read in the guardian today, being what i would describe as "post goth" i can relate to this article wink indeed from the age of about 15-18 i too resembled some kind of sisters of mercy reject from the 80's blush i now wear a lot of pink as some kind of over compensation although i do like a good bit of Bauhaus every now and again when i relapse.

p.s. i put some old pics i scanned in my folder

is the frightfest held at the prince charles?

i love that theatre, i always go there for even just one random show, when i pass by london. it's so cool, old school, and cheap.

i will check out hostel when it comes out on dvd. i was attracted to it (and to the way americans may be portrayed! ahaha), but then i worried that it'd be ONLY centered on showing torture after torture... i get bored easily by that. i like a decent plot!

and never forget... "this guns is for the niggers!"

ahahah, that was such a cool joke with along setup in cabin fever! tongue

ciao!

i still need to see Hostel. i don't like horror as a genre, but i'll see the odd movie once in a while if i think it looks interesting.

i am also a huuuuuge sucker for Tarantino, and if he recommends it, then i am absolutely going to see it. biggrin
